Stripping electrocoat is one of the more difficult paint removal processes. Our preferred processes are either:

EC-STRIP
Typically used for the removal of e-coat from smooth components and smooth jigs. Total clean removal of the coating can be a problem where rough welds and seams are present.

BM-STRIP
For more difficult jobs, this is an alkaline accelerated stripper, containing amines. BM STRIP is an efficient e-coat stripper. It is typically used with a synthetic seal on the surface to lower evaporation losses. Usually used with circulation and a filter press to remove paint residues. Typical use temperature 100 C.

Unlike heat processes EC-STRIP and BM-STRIP have the following benefits.

  • Can be used on non-ferrous components
  • Do not cause heat distortion
  • Do not detemper spring loaded jig tips
  • Do not alter dimensions of threaded components
  • Can be completely drained from difficult profiles, unlike fluidised beds which can retain sand and ovens which can retain ash
EC-STRIP See Technical Data Sheet for process details and control
BM-STRIP See Technical Data Sheet for process details and control

Stripping solutions containing higher boiling point glycols have also been proposed which are used at elevated temperatures in special plant. However these very soon become contaminated with paint residues and need to be recovered by expensive vacuum distillation in order to be viable.
