Filter Pump
Paint Stripping Home Page
This pump is used to circulate the solution via the filterpress: a pump capable of producing 6 bar pressure is required.
Double diaphragm pumps have been found to be suitable for the following reasons:-
- There is no shaft seal to be deteriorated by the stripper.
- If the pump stalls against pressure in the system, it just stops rather than tripping out the motor or burning it out.
- As they are air operated, there are no flameproofing considerations.
- They are more tolerant of pumping sludges than pumps using impellers.
Stainless steel bodied pumps are ideal but expensive, experience has shown polypropylene bodied pumps can give satisfactory performance. The diaphragms of the pumps MUST BE a two part component, with PTFE (‘Teflon’) in contact with the stripper and a synthetic rubber backing to provide flexibility and support to the PTFE. Any attempt to use materials such as ‘Viton’, ‘Hypalon’, ‘Neoprene’ or similar in contact with the stripper will have a very short service life.
A typical installation would have pumps supplied by 2 inch pipework.
